Heirs and Graces give expert tuition in a diverse range of patchwork, quilting, knitting, felting, beading and embroidery techniques.

We have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in our own classroom, catering for all skills. A full range of fabrics, yarns and speciality embroidery requirements is available from our shop.

Here is a quick taster of our up-coming classes and workshops. Workshops are run between 10am and 4pm unless otherwise stated. Block a Month

Block a Month

Our ‘Block a Month’ courses are designed to give you enjoyable tuition in the art of Patchwork and Quilting. By joining a group you come once per month, learn different techniques in a relaxing and fun atmosphere.

Our classes are small and cater for all skill levels, we teach on an individual and flexible basis, and you work at your own pace.

You will be with like minded people who come to relax, get away from everything for a few hours and end up with a project that you can be proud of.         

The techniques that we cover include; English Patchwork; Strip piecing; American Patchwork; Curved Seams; Machine Strip; Cathedral Window; Pieced Patchwork; Foundation Piecing; Celtic; Paper Piecing; Sashiko; Hand Applique; Stained Glass; Hawaiian Applique; Reverse Applique; Folk Art Quilts; Crazy; Bargello; Miniature Quilts; Seminole; Tessellations; Sashings and Joining Blocks; Borders;Edgings and Sleeves

The cost is £35.00 for the day, plus materials.

We have classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays each month.

Learn all that your sewing machine can do and how to do it!

You will learn how to access the different stitches on your machine and their various uses, what to use different pressure feet for, the properties and uses of a range of fabrioc stabilisers and be introduced to exciting new products.

You will leave with a crazy bag made using soem of the skills and knowledge you have learned and with a better understanding of the potential of you machine

silk_ribbon_foxgloves Silk Ribbon Embroidery -
Foxgloves


Monday 22nd March

Beautiful and delicate embroidery using luxurious silk ribbon and threads.

You will learn how to incorporate fine silk ribbons in beautifully subtle colours into a  delightful picture of foxgloves; the ribbons are applied using a technique that produces a realistically raised effect.  Silk ribbons can be used for embellishments on clothing, card making, quilts and cushion.

You will leave with a beautiful piece of work that will inspire you to develop and apply this  technique to a range of projects.

£40 includes materials


quillow Quillow

A quilt that folds within a pillow – useful for car journeys, students, holidays and cold winter evenings!

You will learn the basics of making a patchwork quilt using the quick method of Log Cabin  pattern, i.e. colour design, accurate cutting using a rotary cutter, placing and stitching fabrics, finishing methods.

You will leave with an attractive and useful item and with some practical knowledge to help you begin working on your own or improve existing skills.

£30 plus materials

bag_shoulder Shoulder Bag

Friday 23rd April

Make an attractive and functional shoulder bag that includes panels using the patchwork technique of foundation piecing.

You will learm basic foundation piecing in a herringbone style, using a rotary cutter, using a pattern and basic machine sewing and finishing skills.

You will lwave with an original and useful bag and with some knowledge of patchwork techniques.

£30 plus materials

SPECIAL classes on other techniques can also be arranged – please enquire

 



This weeks top tip:

Use only 100% cotton thread with your 100% cotton fabric. Polyester is too strong for the cotton fabric, and 20-30 years on, the polyester will pull the pieces apart at the seams by ripping the fabric.
